OLD BOYS OFF TO A STRONG START

BGSOB 1s 3-1 Ormskirk 2s
Aitken
Hodbod
S. Sheikh

The Old Boys started the season in positive fashion as they collected three points from their opening game.

Bury began brightly, passing the ball well and looking threatening whenever they attacked. Hopwood, Hillary and Hodbod controlled the midfield, whilst Butler and Tariq Sheikh provided good support from their wing back positions.

The first goal came from a short corner midway through the first half, following good work from Tariq Sheikh in the D. Will Aitken opened his account for the season with a fierce drive that went in at the near post.

Bury continued to dominate possession and created numerous opportunities. The second goal arrived ten minutes later as David Hodbod deftly deflected the ball home following a free-hit from the edge of the D.

However Ormskirk forced their way back into the game minutes before half time when they scored from a short corner of their own, despite the best efforts of Aitken on the line.

The second half followed much the same pattern as the first, with The Old Boys creating a succession of chances with James Larmett adding to the threat from midfield. Cooke hit the post, Ainscow and Tariq Sheikh swept wide and Shori was inches away from converting a cross following a full length dive at the far post. The three points were sealed with Bury’s third goal, as Sameer Sheikh fired home another short corner with fifteen minutes remaining.

This was a strong start to the season for The Old Boys, with many of the younger players staking their claim for starting places against Golbourne next week.

Match Day Squad: Titlow, Aitken, Cheung, S. Sheikh, T. Sheikh, Butler, Hopwood, Hillary, Hodbod, Shori, Cooke, Ainscow, Larmett, Matthews, Berry.
