Old Boys Make Positive Start to 2008

Bury Grammar School Old Boys got 2008 off to a winning start against a weakened Golborne side, putting December’s poor form behind them.
Credit must go to the visiting side who played with great commitment until the final whistle. The scoring was opened at the far post by Ainscow, and the lead was double ten minutes later by a cheeky Matthews finish. Just prior to half time Matt Cooke added a third following Berry’s defence splitting pass.
The second half brought further goals as Matthews grabbed a second from a set piece and a well-worked move was finished confidently by Daley. Not to be outdone Mark Waywell then scored against his former club, with a low shot into the corner, before Ainscow collected his second of the game.
Xander Robinson then produced a Dave Nugent moment as he opened his account for the season from close range and this was followed by a well-worked short corner, finished by Waywell.
Cooke rounded the scoring off late in the game, with his second of the match and fourth of the season.
Although happy with the scoreline Bury will be well aware that they must play better hockey in the remainder of the season, if they are to force themselves back into the promotion picture.
