Not Just Any Game of Hockey, An M&S Game of Hockey.

BGSOB 5-1 Liverpool Sefton IV
Cooke (2)
Waywell (2)
Wright

Yeah, sorry about the headline, but it just felt right.

This was one of those games that was a pleasure to play in. And I’m not just saying that because we won. It was competitive but friendly, and played in exactly the right spirit. Both teams played to the whistle, and rarely, if ever, disputed a decision. This is even more amazing seeing as I was playing!

The final score was 5-1 to Bury. An under strength Sefton team (with no subs) played with commendable effort and determination, creating good chances of their own, before Bury took the lead.

The Old Boys top scorer, Matt Cooke, took his tally to eight in seven games with two clever finishes. Whilst Mark Waywell bagged a brace of his own, capping an all action Man of The Match display.

Francis Wright also got on the score sheet, for the first time this season. The midfielder fired in after excellent dribbling skills from Matthews had created the opening.

Sefton were not deflated however, and kept pressing the home side. Some quick thinking from hit outs caught Bury on the break, and the defence had to be alert throughout the game. The visitors did score a deserved goal of their own, as a short corner was finished after the initial shot had hit the post.

Ah... if only all games could be this enjoyable.....

The return fixture at Sefton will no doubt be just as good, however the Old Boys can expect to see a stronger Sefton squad and will need to put in a strong performance.

BGSOB face Urmston next week in their final fixture before the Christmas break.

Squad: Heaton, T. Sheikh, J. Lowe, S. Sheikh, Todd, Hillary, Wright, Matthews, Berry, Foster, Waywell, Cooke, Robinson,

MOM: Waywell
