Bury Hit Six In Dominant Display

BGSOB 6 – 0 Cheetham Hill 2s
Foster (13)
Larmett (34)
Shori (52)
Hopwood (64)
Ainscow (68)
Powers (69)

The Old Boys produced another fine display as they fired six goals past Cheetham Hill without reply.

Yet again the result was based on solid defence, as the back line of Cheung, Aitken, Tariq Sheikh, Foster and captain Sameer Sheikh ensured that keeper Titlow was rarely tested.

With the Bury midfield dominating possession, chances were always being created, with the home side deservedly moving in front in the thirteenth minute. Following excellent midfield link up play, Matthews delivered the ball to Foster who swept home past the Cheetham keeper.

After the goal the visitors enjoyed more of the ball, but couldn’t make anything out of the two short corners they created. Bury took full advantage of the let offs as they scored their second just before half time, from a short corner of their own. James Larmett was on hand at the far post to force the ball home, following good work from Sameer Sheikh at the top of the D.

The second half saw the Old Boys take full control of the game, as they produced some fantastic free-flowing hockey. Bury moved further in front in the fifty-second minute as Shori claimed his second goal in consecutive matches. The striker produced a brave diving finish after Aitken had fired the ball towards the far post.

With the home team enjoying a most of the possession, chances were being created on a regular basis. Tom Hopwood provided the game’s fourth goal, with sixty-four minutes gone, as he ghosted past three challenges and drilled a thunderous strike into the bottom corner.

In the final two minutes the Old Boys added two more strikes to round off the victory. Firstly, Joe Ainscow calmly fired past the advancing keeper, before Bobby Powers capped a fine debut with an opportunist strike.

This victory kept the Old Boys one hundred per cent record intact and sets them up nicely for next week’s game, away to fourth placed Blackpool.

Squad: Titlow, Aitken, Cheung, T. Sheikh, Foster, S. Sheikh, Hopwood, Hillary, Matthews, Shori, Cooke, Ainscow, Berry, Larmett, Butler, Powers.
