BURY MAINTAIN PROMISING START
Golborne II.....0
BGSOB...........4
The Old Boys continued their good start to the season with another three points and a dominant display against Golborne.
In the opening minutes Bury seemed to take longer to settle as the defence was stretched early on, once in their rhythm however, the Old Boys began to exert their influence. Several chances came and went before Matt Cooke put Bury in front after twelve minutes.
Following good build up play, Joe Ainscow drew the keeper out before playing the ball under his body. Cooke, showing a true striker’s positioning, was on hand to guide the ball into the open net and give Bury the lead.
The Old Boys spent the remainder of the half on the front foot, with only the heroics of Golborne’s keeper preventing any addition to the score before the half time whistle.
Bury came out for the second half determined to convert some of the chances they had been creating. Three minutes into the half more good work from Hopwood, Hillary and Ainscow provided Shori with a one-on-one opportunity. The striker made no mistake as he coolly placed the ball into the corner of the net.
Bury were now playing some excellent hockey and, with fifty minutes gone, claimed their third goal. Neat work from Aitken gave Cooke a sight of goal. The front man showed good composure as he slotted home his second and Bury’s third.
The game’s final goal came six minutes later as Dave Matthews scored his first for the club. More excellent Bury play saw the ball delivered to Matthews near the top of the D, the midfielder gave himself room before firing his shot into the bottom corner of the net.
The Old Boys have started the season strongly and will look to maintain their impressive form against Cheetham Hill on Saturday at Goshen.
