Cooke Seals Points for Bury
BGSOB 1-0 Manchester Trinity III
Cooke
The Old Boys secured another three points on Saturday with a narrow victory over Manchester Trinity.
An early short corner for the visitors saw captain Tariq Sheikh produce an impressive goal line clearance, as Bury weathered some early pressure. Gradually the Old Boys got their passing game going and started to create clear-cut chances.
Two short corners were wasted, Cooke fired wide from Waywell’s cross, McCracken’s first time effort was well stopped at the near post and Cooke saw a clever deflection loop over the bar.
With numerous crosses flashing across the ‘D’ it appeared as if the Old Boys weren’t going to find the net, however top scorer Cooke finally found the break through. More good passing play found Foster on the right. His ball into the danger area was turned home at the second attempt, as Cooke netted his eleventh goal of the season.
The second half saw Bury keeper Heaton untroubled as the home side looked to double their lead. They looked certain to do so, but Waywell’s shot and Cooke’s follow up were both stopped on the line by the excellent Trinity keeper.
With Matthews firing wide and Tariq Sheikh smashing an effort narrowly over, the Old Boys were unable to add to their tally. However, with another clean sheet Cooke’s single strike was enough to ensure victory.
Squad: Heaton, T.Sheikh, Todd, S. Sheikh, Foster, Berry, McManus, Hillary, Matthews, Waywell, Cooke, Robinson, McCracken, Fernando, J. Lowe, C. Lowe.
MOM: Foster
