Cooke’s Double Enough For Old Boys

BGSOB 2-0 Ormskirk
Cooke (2)

The Old Boys consolidated their second place position with a comfortable win over Ormskirk on Saturday.

The first half was all Bury as the Old Boys produced excellent passing hockey, maintaining possession and looking threatening every time they went forward. Their good play was rewarded with two excellent team goals, both finished by top scorer Matt Cooke.
Each time, Cooke was on hand to apply his trademark clinical finish to moves that started deep in the Bury half, as the home side dominated the first thirty five minutes.

The second half was a different story however, as changes to the Bury side disrupted their flow, Ormskirk applied greater pressure to the man in possession and generally Bury didn’t pass the ball as well.

Although Bury were comfortable and created chances, they never had quite the stranglehold of the first half.

The Old Boys are three points clear in second place, with a game in hand, but face a potentially difficult trip to Liverpool next week.

Squad: Heaton, Berry, S. Sheikh, T. Sheikh, McManus, Foster, Matthews, Hillary, Waywell, Cooke, Ainscow, McCracken, Robinson, Mohammed, Fernando.
