Fabulously Irrepressible Flowing Teamwork Easily Eviscerates Nemesis

The Old Boys produced an emphatic return to form on Saturday as they crushed a Lytham side that had been producing some positive results in the last few weeks.
The game started in fantastic fashion for Bury as they took the lead a mere fifteen seconds into the game. This achievement was even more remarkable as Lytham had taken the opening push back. From the initial pass back Hillary applied pressure and intercepted the second pass. He quickly fed Fidler who was given far too much space in the ‘D.’ The prolific striker then unleashed a thunderous shot which crashed into the far corner, before the goalkeeper had time to even move.
With such a start, the Old Boys had a fantastic platform, and went on to produce an awesome display of hockey. Tireless running from the midfield and wingbacks, solid defence from the back three and a level of creativity up front that bamboozled the home defence.
Within fifteen minutes, the Old Boys had bagged their second. A stunning move from right to left involving Berry, McManus, Hillary and Matthews saw the ball delivered to Fidler. His beautifully weighted ball found Foster in acres of space on the right of the ‘D.’ The wingback produced a precise ball into Cooke, who appeared to be penned in near the by line. Somehow, the forward managed to pivot and flick the ball past the keeper, applying a beautiful finish to an awesome move.
Bury, playing with freedom and confidence, then dominated the rest of the half. Lowe, Stoneman, Heaton and captain Tariq Sheikh provided a solid base, which was tested just twice in the half. Heaton kicked one cross clear and dealt easily with a loose through ball.
At the other end, The Old Boys ripped through the home defence at will. With Chris Lowe’s intelligent running and Xander Robinson’s mesmerising wing play, every player was contributing to the attacking threat. Chances were created time after time and in truth, but for some outstanding goalkeeping, the visitors should have been eight nil up by half time. The only down side was the increasingly physical nature of the game, a theme which was to continue in the second half, with some outrageous fouls.
Lytham tried hard to get back into the game in the second half, but despite all their pressure they couldn’t really test Heaton. Lytham were awarded several short corners, but could only test Heaton twice, as the Bury defence smothered the routines with their well drilled defence.
Bury sealed the game with two more fine efforts. Fidler netted the third with a venomous shot from the top of the ‘D’. Such was the power of the shot, the keeper got a full blocker to it, but couldn’t stop the ball from flying into the net.
The final goal, demonstrated Cooke’s finishers instincts as he deftly deflected Fidler’s rasping pass beyond the stranded keeper. The goal, whilst looking simple, displayed great touch and fantastic understanding between the two players.
Bury move nine points clear at the top of the division, however they cannot relax as Leigh have a game in hand, whilst Blackpool have two. Added to that is Bolton’s inclusion in the promotion race, which should all add up to an interesting finale as all four teams meet towards the end of the season.
